ABOUT ME

Kevin has over 22 years experience as a Christian counselor specializing in therapy for individuals, couples and families.

Kevin currently serves as the Training Director for the Northside Achievement Zone.  Previously, Kevin served as Lead Clinical Consultant to 15 of the leading organizations in the Twin Cities area whose missions are focused on empowering formerly homeless families.   In collaboration with these partner organizations (which serve approximately 300 families per year), Kevin developed a proprietary model for building staff capacity in mental and chemical health known as the 90 Day Window.  Kevin has presented this model at statewide conferences including St. Paul Traveler's Conference, St. Paul, MN; The Corporation for Supportive Housing Annual Conference, St. Paul, MN; and Department of Human Services Training Conference, Little Falls, MN.

In addition to professional consulting, Kevin provides culturally competent counseling on a limited basis to individuals ages 13 and older and to family groups. Among his areas of expertise are pre-marital counseling, couples counseling, divorce/remarriage therapy, blended family therapy, grief and loss therapy, depression and anxiety therapy, and adolescent therapy.

Kevin's therapeutic approach is holistic in terms of his attention to body, mind, and spirit and systemic in terms of his orientation to the inter-relatedness between the primary client and his/her extended family network. Kevin has worked for several of the leading community based mental health agencies in the Twin Cities Metro area including:

  • Survival Skills Institute;
  • Nexus Adult and Juvenile Programs, Inc.;
  • Lutheran Social Services;
  • Reuben Lindh Family Services;
  • Hearthstone of MN Group Homes;
  • Generations Community Support Services;
  • David Hoy and Associates; and
  • Family Based Therapy Associates.

Throughout his professional experience, Kevin has facilitated therapy in residential, out-patient, and in-home settings for both individuals and families.  In addition, Kevin has lead therapy and support groups in the areas of grief and loss, self-esteem, gender/specific rites of passage, chemical dependency, sexuality, family of origin, parenting, and spirituality.

Kevin is an interactive, experiential focused therapist.  His therapeutic approach includes solution focused and cognitive behavioral strategies that provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, Kevin works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

In addition to his work as a marriage and family therapist, Kevin is an ordained pastor.   Kevin's ministry experience has been cultivated largely community based ministry including the following:
